What is a VPN?
- Virtual Private Network
What does a VPN do?
- Gives you internet freedom. A VPN when connected, routes your internet connection on that device to a VPN server. That server "washes" your connection and sends it back to your device. This prevents internet providers from seeing what you do with your internet connection. (Like it should be)
How does a VPN help with buffering?
- Many ISP's (internet service providers) have systems in place to monitor connections. When their system see's a connection on a "unknown source", meaning not your typical Netflix, Hulu, ETC. It also see's that your connection is using more bandwidth(speed) to use that "unknown source" their system "throttles" or "blocks" the "unknown source". Which in turn limits your speed to that device when trying to watch a service.
When the VPN is active, their systems can no longer see what you connection is accessing.
Why does my service buffer worse with a VPN?
- When you use a VPN it's re-routing your internet connection to a VPN server. Then routing that connection back to the device. Through that process, your internet speed is reduced or loses speed. For example, your connection speed starts with 50mbps to the device. You connect your VPN, by the time that 50mpbs goes to the VPN server and back to the device, it may only be holding a speed of 25mbps.
So, if you do not have good speed to begin with, you will have less after connecting a VPN. This will result in buffering. You need to upgrade your internet speed package at this time.
My ISP says they do not throttle
- Why would they tell you they do? It is of no benefit to tell you they do. From what we have seen, often times the installer or troubleshooter has no idea when or if the companies automated systems are throttling or blocking. It's been proven over and over, after connecting a VPN people problems went away. AS LONG AS THEY HAVE THE SPEED.
Free VPN's do not work
- I repeat, free VPN's do not work.
What VPN do you recommend?
- We recommend Surfshark, we have no affiliation with them. It's just that we know their operating system and can help you if you have questions. We also know it works.
I already pay for the service, why do I have to pay for a VPN?
- Unfortunately we have no control if your ISP blocks or throttles, we are not responsible for that. We can only help trying to get around it.
